Surgical methods for sperm collection include:
PESA
This method involves obtaining sperm from the epididymis without a skin incision, using a needle.
MESA
Involves accessing the epididymis through a skin incision and collecting live sperm cells with the help of a needle. It is particularly preferred in cases of azoospermia due to blockage and after vasectomy.
Micro-TESE
This is the research for live sperm using small tissue samples taken from areas of the testis identified with the help of a microscope. Generally, there is a 30-50% chance of collecting sperm with this method. Micro-TESE does not pose a risk of negatively affecting the individual’s future life or sexual functions.
MESA
This procedure involves retrieving sperm from the testis via a needle. It is performed under local anesthesia, and there is no need for incision or stitching. No hospital stay or rest is required. Due to its high reliability, it is a preferred method for obtaining sperm in suitable cases. It may be preferred in cases of azoospermia due to blockage, after vasectomy or in cases who have problems providing sperm samples.
