The very first step is a free, no-obligation online consultation with our lead fertility consultant. The consultant will ask you a few questions about your medical history, explain the donation process, and answer any questions you may have. If you choose to work with us, we will provide you with a list of required blood tests and medical exams, such as vaginal ultrasounds and cervical cancer screenings, that you can conveniently schedule near your home or workplace.
Egg and sperm donations are anonymous in Cyprus, and the clinic is not involved in the matching process. However, we can assist and guide you through the difficult process of finding the perfect donor for you. Your partner will have to fly to Cyprus at some point to provide a sperm sample at our facility if you use his sperm. In the case of using frozen donor eggs, they will be thawed and fertilized immediately with the fresh sperm. Otherwise, the sperm sample is frozen, and we wait until the egg donor is ready for the egg retrieval to fertilize the fresh eggs with the frozen sperm. In the case of double donation (donor eggs and donor sperm), embryos are created whenever it is convenient for the laboratory and the gametes are available.
The fertilized eggs are cultured until they reach the expanded blastocyst stage and then cryopreserved. In some cases, patients opt for PGTA testing. In this case, a biopsy is performed before freezing the blastocysts. Once a sufficient number of good-quality blastocysts are frozen, we will find a suitable date for you to travel to Cyprus for your embryo transfer. Prior to this, we organize a treatment near your home or workplace, which lasts about 16–18 days, to prepare the uterine lining. This involves a hormonal treatment with estradiol pills for 10–12 days, a vaginal ultrasound scan and a progesterone blood test, and then an additional treatment with progesterone capsules taken vaginally.
We recommend arriving in Cyprus the day before the embryo transfer and showing up to the clinic first thing the next morning with a full bladder. The actual embryo transfer is a quick, painless procedure comparable to a PAP smear test. You can safely board a flight home the same afternoon or evening of the embryo transfer.
